Why Digital
Tentmaking?

The Apostle Paul was one of the most effective missionaries in history. He was also a leatherworker. He made tents, awnings, and leather goods in every city he visited - not because he was poor, but because he wanted to be free.

The original tentmaker

When Paul arrived in Corinth, he set up shop with Aquila and Priscilla - fellow leatherworkers recently expelled from Rome. He worked at his bench in the city forum, among slaves and shopkeepers, while also preaching in the synagogue. This embarrassed some of the upper-class Corinthians, who thought their apostle should accept proper patronage.

Paul refused. He worked so that he could preach the gospel "free of charge" - so that no one would ever feel they owed him anything, and so that he could distinguish himself from the religious charlatans who made their living from their audiences.

The digital version

In the 21st century, the tools have changed. You do not need a workbench in a forum. You need a laptop, a skill, and a client. Software development, writing, design, consulting, teaching online - these are the tents of our era. Portable, scalable, and compatible with a life of service.

This site exists to help people think through that combination: how to build an income that is independent enough to give you freedom, remote enough to go where you are needed, and sustainable enough to last.

Who this is for

The name is Christian, and the history is explicitly theological. But the model is for anyone who wants to serve without financial dependency:

  • Missionaries and cross-cultural workers who want alternatives to donor support
  • Pastors and ministry workers who want financial independence
  • Community builders, activists, and nonprofit workers
  • Anyone whose calling is bigger than a paycheck

What you will find here
